Goonj Initiative

Apparel Export Promotion Council is committed to contributing to social causes that synergize sustainability and social welfare. In this regard, we are happy to share that AEPC has partnered with Goonj, a multi award winning social enterprise evolving culture and mechanism of processing and recycling urban waste i.e. cotton clothes and other materials with the participation of urban masses.

Under the association, AEPC requests its member (apparel exporters) to contribute used Cotton Clothes and Recyclable Industrial Wastes such as cutting scraps & finished pieces for effective reuse by Goonj.

AEPC is having collection centres at its offices in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi (NCR) and Mumbai. Collection boxes have been kept in these regional offices where members may drop the Surplus Clothes (cotton) and other materials such as cutting scraps & finished pieces separately in the boxes during working office hours /days of the Council. The materials shall be handed over to the representative of the Goonj by the regional offices of the Council on regular basis.

The partnership is aimed at providing an effective solution to the cloth waste that the members may be having and ensuring a circular economy for the industrial wastes. The contributing companies can join us in demonstrating their commitment to reducing landfill, effective recycling and contributing to the social cause of women and children.

Goonj uses these waste material and second hand clothes as a resource to initiate large scale development activities on local Infrastructure, education, sanitation, menstrual health, water, Livelihood etc.

The NGO is spread pan India in 23 states involving thousands of people in cities and villages. Goonj’s founder Mr. Anshu Gupta was conferred with the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2015 for his enterprising leadership and for changing the culture of Giving in India.
