Statement of Shri Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman AEPC on the Bangladesh protest

6th August 2024; New Delhi/ Gurugram: Commenting on the recent protest and violence in Bangladesh, Shri Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman AEPC stated that, "The current situation in Bangladesh is a matter of concern for all of us. We wish that the tense situation should stabilize quickly and normal business should resume. We are a friendly neighbor and completely empathize with the very unfortunate incidence of violent protest that is unfolding in recent days.”

On the issue of getting business diverted to India Chairman AEPC clarified, “The garment exporters of India have no intentions and inclination to benefit from the pressing situation in Bangladesh. The Indian garment industry is making efforts to grow RMG exports based on its merit, rather than exploiting the compulsion of a neighboring partner country. Moreover, businesses do not move as a knee jerk reaction so quickly. The Indian garment industry is getting better and growing in demand owing to enhanced quality and adhering to environmental and social norms as per the global standards and best practices.”

On the fate of the Indian RMG factories operating in Bangladesh Shri Sekhri said,” We are deeply concerned for those business entities of many Indian investors who have set up garment factories in Bangladesh and stand arm-in-arm with fellow exporters. "
