AEPC Trade and Health Advisory on mitigating the situation arising out of Coronavirus

Dear Members,

Today we are faced with a challenging situation in the form of Coronavirus, which has affected more than 118,000 people and killed around 4,200 people worldwide. India, too, is facing the ongoing crisis.

I take this opportunity to talk about the disease, its implications, both in terms of health and business, and the precautions that we as individuals need to take, stand up and face with a scientific temperament without resorting to fearful reactions.

We need to be watchful of the early signs of coronavirus like having a sore throat and fever. However, as these symptoms may take up to 14 days, it would be advisable to remain alert and aware about the disease and precautions to be taken.

Some of the precautionary measures are using a mask, hand sanitization, washing our hands regularly, avoiding body contact with others and keeping away from crowded places. We should avoid going into a panic mode and worsen the situation.

As we remain resolute to tackle the current crisis, the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), as a responsible trade body, has taken up the responsibility to look after the interest of the apparel exporters who are facing an equally daunting business situation.

The Council has identified top 10 apparel product lines each in the US, EU, Japan and South Korea which are showing significant decline in Chinese exports. These can work as new opportunities for local apparel exporters who have the potential to fill the gap.

Besides, AEPC also advises its members to diversify their sourcing base given that the supply chain from China is disrupted. We have approached the government who in turn has asked the Indian Embassies abroad to identify alternate sources of input suppliers.

Please find attached a presentation on trade and health advisory to check the disease and also safeguard our businesses. We urge our members to make the best use of our trade studies and spread health awareness among its workforce at the factories.

As we assure you our continued support, kindly let us know other potential markets or constraints, which the Council will use for feedback to government to inspire remedial interventions. The feedback form is attached in the presentation. For further information, please contact: chairman@aepcindia.com.
