Premal Udani

Mr.Premal Udani did his MBA in the US in 1980 and joined the family business of Textiles & Yarn Trading and immersed himself in building the garment division for the Company, M/s Kay Tee Corp. Pvt. Ltd. This completely vertical company operates from Tirupur is one of the top exporters of knitted garments out of India and also has the distinction of winning more than 60 top exports awards.

Practically from the beginning of his career, he has been part of trade associations such as The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), Federation of Hosiery Manufacturers Association (FOHMA). Most of his fellow exporters were about a decade older than him and he learnt a lot from them in the early years. He has been an Executive Committee
member of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) since 1986, at that time the youngest member of the Committee.
 
He was elected President of CMAI in 1999 for a two year term, which culminated into a 6 year term. He completely changed the profile of CMAI, by introducing several revolutionary initiatives and international tie - ups and collaborations.

Mr Udani has been closely associated with Tirupur and is founding member of the India Knit Fair Association (IKFA). He was also specially appointed by the Government of Gujarat on a panel to explore possibilities of setting up garment industry in Gujarat. The cluster at Vapi was a result of the work of this panel.

A good orator, Mr.Udani has presented several papers on Textiles and Clothing in national and international seminars and his views have always been well received. He has been on the Committee of Indo Italian of commerce and industry for the past 5 years and was also on the Committee of Indian Merchant Chambers (IMC) up to 2006.

Mr. Udani is also involved in his family charitable trust, which runs a center for destitute women (1500 ladies) and also runs orthopedic hospital. All this in his family home town of Rajkot, Gujarat.
